RUZSA

Province (county) : Csongrád

Arms (crest) of Ruzsa
Official blazon
Hungarian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The falcon in the arms is a Saker falcon (Falco cherrug) used in medieval times as a hunting bird, and represents here the fact that the area was a hunting area for the nobility.

The second quarter shows a crown and crossed weapons for Saint King Ladislaw I of Hungary and the conquest of the area in the 11th century. The rose is the symbol for St. Mary, the local patron saint.

The lower half shows an incense burner dating from the 12th century, which symbolise the long history of the area. The tree of life in the burner is also an ancient element of the Hungarian faith, while the woodpecker is a symbol of Christ guarding the integrity of the tree of life in Christian notions.
