The arms were granted on September 9, 1974.

The palm tree alludes to the trees that were found in great quantities in the region and the stars represent the dream of the first settlers of a bright future to the region.

The supporters show that sugar cane and coffee are important agricultural.products of the region.

The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bear the name of the city.
