SHCHUKINO RAYON (райо́н Щу́кино)

Federal subject : Moscow

Arms of Shchukino Rayon

Official blazon

В золотом щите московской формы знак атома - черный шар в окружении двух перекрещенных вытянутых черных колец. В голубой главе серебряная щука.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 02, 2005.

The atom symbolises the Kurchatov Institute on the territory of the municipality and the complex of other large research institutes. The pike in the blue chief of the shield symbolises the historical (XV-XVII centuries) village of Shchukino. The village was located on the banks of the Moscow River and in 1701 it was listed as having a pond rich in fish and a mill on the Khimka River. The ancient name of the village was embodied in the modern name of the territory, and the image of the pike was included in the emblem as a symbol of the municipality.
