Origin/meaning

Simmern was a possession of the Counts of the Rau until 1358, when it became a possession of the Wittelsbach family, Counts of the Pfalz. In 1555 Simmern received city rights. The arms were granted in 1901 and are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from the late 14th century. The upper half shows the lion of the Pfalz, the lower the diamonds of the Wittelsbach family.
