THE SOMERSET LIGHT INFANTRY (PRINCE ALBERT'S), BRITISH ARMY

History: Raised in 1685 as the Earl of Huntingdon's Regiment, becoming in 1822 the 13th Light infantry. In 1959 amalgamated with The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, British Army to form The Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, British Army.

Official blazon

A bugle horn (mouthpiece to the right) with inistials PA in ornamental lettering between the strings; above the bugle a mural crown superscribed Jellalabd on a scroll. In silver plate.

Origin/meaning

The Mural Crown and Scroll was granted 30 August 1842 by Queen Victoria "as a memorial of the fortitude, perseverance and enterprise envinced by the that regiment, and serveral corps which served during the blockade of Jellalabad". This City is located in Afghanistan. the Letters PA alludes to Prince Albert and the Bugle to the Light Infantry status.
