Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a green mountain peak capped with silver, bearing a silver triangle charged with a maroon cross and all encircled in base by a silver scroll inscribed "WITH GREAT COMPASSION" in maroon letters.
Origin/meaning
Maroon and white (silver) are the colors used for DENTAC units. The Greek letter "delta," symbolized by the triangle, refers to the Dental Corps. The cross is a symbol of care service and mercy. The mountain peak refers to the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges which surround the Puget Sound area. The mountain slopes are green, the color of life and health, and alludes to fir trees and foliage as Washington is known as the "Evergeen State."
The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 26 September 1980.
