Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 10, 1516 by Duke Ludwig X of Bayern.

The chief shows the arms of Bayern. The two keys are the symbol of the State of Regensburg, to which the area belonged until 1438. The shape of the green key is unusual, but has no special meaning. The arms remained unchanged since.
