VESTFOLD PROVINCE

Vestfold.jpg

Official blazon

På rød bunn en gull kongekrone.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 30, 1970.

The arms show a golden crown in red. The crown symbolises that Vestfold was a separate kingdom in the 9th century, later the ruling dynasty of Vestfold became kings of whole Norway, making the province the birthplace of the kingdom. The crown is shaped as an early medieval crown as seen on a seal of King Håkon V Magnusson from the 14th century.
