Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 11, 1997.

The green castle symbolises the former castle in the municipality, which was built by Frankish Crusaders in the reconquest of Lisbon. The castle is green (Verde) as a canting symbol for the Frankish (Francos) castle (Vila). The fleur-de-lys, being the symbol of the French Royal family, was added as a further reference. The grapes symbolise the importance of viticulture for the parish.
