The site was created in 1996 as Nederlandse Gemeentewapens (Dutch civic arms, hence the domain name www.ngw.nl) and went global in 1999 as International Civic Arms, since 2010 it is known as Heraldry of the World. It is by far the largest collection of civic coats of arms ever published and still growing.

Although as much information on the arms as possible will be included, like pictures, meaning and history, often there is just a picture, not a description of the arms, nor a history. Any additional information thus is welcome ! All information is taken from public sources (books, internet) and the sources are always mentioned and credited. Most pictures are scans from books, with the exception of the Dutch civic arms, where all the pictures are made by myself.

For example, cities, which were granted arms during the Russian Empire, are now under the individual countries. WAPPEN DER WELT

Heraldik der Welt ist eine private Website, die sich ausschließlich der nicht-persönlichen Heraldik widmet. Die site enthalt offentlichen Heraldik (Wappen von Städten, Staaten, Gemeinden, Ländern usw.), kirchliche Heraldik (Heraldik der verschiedenen Kirchen, Kardinäle, Bischöfe usw.), korporative, institutionelle und militärische Heraldik. Es beinhaltet auch den Versuch, einen vollständigen Katalog heraldischer (papierbasierter) Sammlerstücke zu erstellen, wobei der Schwerpunkt wiederum auf der offentlichen Heraldik liegt.

Die Site enthält derzeit 172.582 Seiten und 286.489 images. Seit Juni 2010 gibt es 561.844.110 Seitenaufrufe.

Sie können die Website mithilfe der länderbasierten Vorlage (rechts), der allgemeinen Übersicht (linke Leiste), der Kategorie oder des Landes (unten) oder mithilfe der Suchmaschine (oben rechts) durchsuchen.

Obwohl so viele Informationen wie möglich über die Waffen enthalten sein werden, wie Bilder, Bedeutung und Geschichte, gibt es oft nur ein Bild, keine Beschreibung der Waffen oder eine Geschichte. Jede zusätzliche Information ist daher willkommen! Alle Informationen stammen aus öffentlichen Quellen (Bücher, Internet) und die Quellen werden immer erwähnt und gutgeschrieben. Viele Bilder sind Scans aus Büchern, sofern nicht anders angegeben.

Sprache

Die Sprache der Website ist Englisch mit heraldischen Beschreibungen in den Landessprachen. Verwenden Sie zum Übersetzen der Seite die Übersetzeroption in Ihrem Browser. Zum Beispiel in Chrome die Schaltfläche in Ihrer Adressleiste: Chrome.jpg

Kategorien

Länder

Wappen von Ländern, Gebieten oder Provinzen, die es nicht mehr gibt, werden unter das Land gelegt, in dem sich das Gebiet derzeit befindet. Beispielsweise werden Städte, denen während des Russischen Reiches Wappen verliehen wurden, jetzt den einzelnen Ländern zugeordnet. Ebenso werden Städte in den ehemaligen deutschen Provinzen Preußen und Posen unter Polen, die südafrikanischen Kolonien und Heimatländer unter Südafrika und Niederländisch-Ostindien unter Indonesien eingestuft.
