Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 2nd, 1914.

The stag's head is a symbol for the former hunting estate in Bosvoorde of the Dukes of Brabant. The horn in the chief has two meanings. The horn was used by the guild responsible for the hunting dogs in the estate. The guild was granted its own seal by Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy in 1435. The seal showed a hunter, wearing a horn around his neck.
The horn also symbolises the hunting court established in the village in the early 16^th century by Emperor Charles V. The council of Watermaal used from the 15th until the 18^th century a seal showing the local patron saint St. Clement.
