===Origin/meaning===. The arms were granted on May 31, 2001.
The arms show a reindeer head, the main occupation of the indigenous people is reindeer herding. The base shows the Pechora river and the importance of fishing for the town.
The arms replaced older arms adopted on April 7, 1978, which showed the same elements, plus an oil rig, as oil is an important source of income for the region.
