52ND TROOP CARRIER WING, USAAF
History: Constituted as 53rd Tranport Wing on 30 May 1942, activted on 15 June 1942. Redesignated 52nd Troop Carrier Win gin July 1942. Moved to the Mediterranean theather April-May 1943. Served with the Twelfth Air Force until February 1944. Moved to the United kingdom Feb-March 1944, assigned to Ninth Air Force. Returned to the US Jun-July 1945. Inactivated on 27 August 1946. Redesignated 52nd Fighter Wing, and allotted to New York Air National Guard on 28 August 1946. Extended federal recognition on 3 October 1947. Inactivated on 31 October 1950.

Insigne: Shield: On a Blue rectangle edged in gold, long axis vertical, corners rounded, a stylized wing between five (5) mullets in chief and two of the like in base all gold.
