VI BOMBER COMMAND, USAAF

History: Constituted as VI Bomber command on 17 October 1941 and activated in the Panama Canal Zone on 25 October. Assigned to Caribbean (later Sixth) Air Force. Engaged in anti-submarine operations; served as part of the Defence Force for the Panama Canal. Inactivated on 1 November 1946 and disbanded on 8 October 1948.

Official blazon

Insigne: OIn front of a blue annulet bearing the motto "Alae Supra Canalem" in gold letters, a winged aerial bomb, the whole edged in gold.

Origin/meaning

The Insigne was approved on 18 March 1942. The Motto translates as "Wings over the Canal" and alludes to the Panama Canal and operations over the same.
