Bonndorf had already its own seal at the end of the 13<sup>th</sup> century. The seal showed a lion, which is most likely the lion of the Zähringen dynasty. Later seals show since the 16<sup>th</sup> century one or up to three bean-plants (Bohne=bean) as a canting arms, sometimes planted in a small hill. When Bonndorf became a city in 1891, the old lion was restored.
