Oorsprong/verklaring :
Volgens een legende is het wapen ontstaan nadat een schans werd veroverd omdat 2 officieren zaten te schaken en dus niet opletten. Het werd in ieder geval al in de 18e eeuw gevoerd. In de Statenzaal van de Staten van Overijssel wordt het abusievelijk weergegeven als zilver en zwart ipv rood.
