RÜDENHAUSEN
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Kitzingen (until 1973 Gerolzhofen)
German | In Gold ein schwebender roter Rüdenrumpf mit goldenem Halsband. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The town was a possession of the Counts of Castell from the 13th century until 1533. The oldest seal dates from the early 16th century and already shows a shield with a pawless front part of a dog (canting element, from Rüde, a kind of hunting dog), coming from the side of the shield.
The dog was also used as a crest by the Lords of Gnottstat, who had the village in loan from the Counts of Castell. In the seals from the early 19th century the dog was shown as above, with the front paws and part of the back. This composition has not changed since.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
