DOMBASLE-EN-ARGONNE

Département: Meuse

Blason de Dombasle-en-Argonne/Arms (crest) of Dombasle-en-Argonne
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on April 2, 2021.

The lion's head is derived from the arms of the Desandrouin family, former lords of the village.

The wavy bend symbolises the Vadelaincourt river, the Saussois stream and a source once venerated by pilgrims under the name of the fountain of Saint-Didier. The crosier indicates that the village historically belonged to the Diocese of Verdun. The two gold rings are those of the Courcy de Recicourt family, also former lords of the village.

The barley ear (bale) is a canting for Saint Basle who made his novitiate in Verzy and died there around 620 after having evangelized the east of France. It also refers to the agricultural character of the village.

The beech twigs represent the surrounding forests.
