Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 12, 2010.
In the upper part of the coat of arms the monogram of Czar Alexander II is shown, after which the town Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsky was named. It was founded in the 19th century as a trading post. Later it became the administratiev center for prison camps in the area. This is symbolised by the chains, which are broken to symbolise freedom.
The centre of the arms show the Three Brothers, a typical landmark in the area in front of the sun.
The arms were redesigned from the previous arms, which were granted on March 28, 2007.
In these arms the chief showed a seagull as a symbol for fishing, which was replaced by the monogram in the later arms.
