Origin/meaning

The arms are identical to the arms of the former département Seine-et-Oise, which was split in 1964. The new département of Yvelines was one of the three new départements created at the time. The arms are based on the arms of the historical province Île-de-France, in which the département is situated, with the addition of two wavy bends for the Seine and Oise rivers.
