Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted on February 26, 2008.
The arms show the letters Ni, for the chemical element nickel, after which the town is named, due to the nickel ore and metal industry in the town. In the chief there are the Northern Lights to indicate the Northern latitude of the town. The base shows three mountains on the border between Russia, Norway and Finland.
