Origin/meaning
The two small wavy silver bars and the blue colour are used to signify the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, that dominates the geography of the region. In the center of the shield is a gold bar on which is seen a canting palm branch, the gold being canting for 'beach'.
Above the bar are two celestial crownsto honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in her titles of “Queen of Heaven” and “Star of the Sea.”
