MURMANSK OBLAST (Мурманская область)
Russian | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted on June, 4, 2004.
The arms show in the chief the Northern lights (Aurora borealis) and in the base an anchor, axe and sword.
The Northern lights indicate the Northern position of the region. The anchor is a symbol for shipping and fishing and the importance of Murmansk as a harbour city. The axe is a symbol for mining, the sword for the military importance of the region.
