German	Im goldenen Schild ein grüner Dreiberg, aus dem ein grü­ner Stengel mit drei silbernen Lilienblüten emporwächst, begleitet von zwei gegeneinander geneigten Schilden mit dem linksgewendeten, fünfmal von Silber und Rot geteilten hessischen Löwen in Blau im rechten und dem silbernen Mainzer Rad in Rot im linken Schild.

Origin/meaning

Wetter received city rights in 1223 and was ruled jointly by the Counts of Hessen and the archbishops of Mainz. The oldest seals date from the 13^th and 14^th century and show the count and a bishop in a large gothic building. The smaller seals, however showed only the arms of the two, the lion of Hessen and the wheel of Mainz. The lily was added in the 15^th century, its meaning is not known, it may be the symbol of St. Mary.
