Origin/meaning

The arms show a bush of sugarcane, the main crop in the area. It was also the first place that sugar was produced in what is now French Guyana (by Dutch Jews). The turtle and tapir refer to the wildlife (jungle and beaches respectively). The eye is taken from the arms of the Lords of Beauregard.
