В лазоревом поле под серебряной главой, обременённой чёрной горой с кратером, из-за которой выходят расширяющиеся червлёные лучи, золотая сеть с тремя поплавками, положенными поверх края главы; поверх сети две серебряные рыбы, первая из которых обращена влево.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 17, 2001.

The rays of the rising sun show that the inhabitants of the district are the first to meet the dawn in Russia, the network and the fish symbolize the fishing industry. The network with floats also symbolizes a barrier, and thus the border position of the islands.

The black mountain in the head of the shield is the volcano Tyatya on the island of Kunashir.

In 2002, a souvenir badge with the heraldic emblem of Yuzhno-Kurilsk was issued showing a different (older/Soviet ?) design :
