Official blazon

Coupé ondé : au 1er d’azur à trois fleurs de lis d’or surmontées d’un lambel d’argent, au 2e losangé d’or et de gueules ; à la divise ondée d’argent brochant sur la partition.

Origin/meaning

The arms combine the arms of the two former regions, to which the département historically belonged; the upper part shows the arms of the Orléanais, the lower half the arms of the County of Angoulême. The wavy bend symbolises the Charente river.
