Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1581 by Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, Bishop of Würzburg. The arms show the local patron saint, St. Michael, killing the dragon, and holding on his breast a small shield with the arms of the Von Mespelbrunn family. The arms were used until 1806, restored again on September 11, 1835 and again granted in 1952.
