Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: A blue circular device with an arched scroll attached above, all edged with an 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, the disc 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter, the height of disc and scroll 3 5/8 inches (9.21 cm); centered on the disc within an orange encircling rope border the head of a pirate in three-quarter view, wearing a black eye patch, face flesh color, headgear orange, delineations black; on the scroll the inscription “BALBOA” in orange letters 3/8 inch (.95 cm) in height.

Origin/meaning

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 4 May 1982.
