452ND FLIGHT TEST SQUADRON, US AIR FORCE

History: Constituted as the 452 Bombardment Squadron (Medium) on 1 June 1942. Activated on 17 July 1942. Redesignated as 452 Bombardment Squadron, Medium, on 9 October 1944. Inactivated on 12 December 1945. Redesignated as 452 Bombardment Squadron, Light, on 3 July 1947. Activated in the Reserve on 9 August 1947. Inactivated on 27 June 1949. Redesignated as 452 Fighter-Day Squadron on 24 March 1954. Activated on 1 July 1954. Inactivated on 18 November 1957. Redesignated as 452 Flying Training Squadron on 28 July 1972. Activated on 1 April 1973. Inactivated on 31 May 1993. Redesignated as 452 Test Squadron on 31 August 1993. Activated on 1 October 1993. Redesignated as 452 Flight Test Squadron on 1 March 1994. Inactivated on 30 June 2010. Activated on 1 March 2017. Combat in the European Theater of Operations, flying medium twin-engine bombers, 14 May 1943-24 April 1945. Disarmament of Germany Air Force, June-September 1945. Trained in the Reserve, using trainers instead of bombers, 1947-1949. Trained to become combat proficient in F-86 and, later, F-100 aircraft as part of Tactical Air Command, 1954-1957. Replaced the 3540 Navigator Training Squadron on 1 April 1973 and assumed task of providing undergraduate navigator training for non-rated personnel of the USAF, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and friendly foreign nations. Later, in July 1976, added undergraduate navigator training of US Navy personnel and, in January 1977, of US Coast Guard personnel. Began training female navigators in March 1977.
