Origin/meaning
Deuil was for many centuries a possession of the Montmorency family. The arms of the Montmorency family showed a cross with in each quarter four small eagles. In 1402 the village became a possession of a branch of the family, which distinguished the family arms with a free quarter of ermine. These arms later were adopted as the arms of the village.
