History: The Name was used by a Survey Vessel in service 1952-1973, replaced by a new Ship in service since 2003.

Origin/meaning

The Badge show the Personal Arms of Willebrord Snellius (1580-1626), Professor of Mathematics at the University of Leiden. His work was of great importance to Hydrographic Cartography. He also laid the foundations for a Method to measure Angles by means of Trigonometry. The Badge was approved 8 February 1952.
