Official blazon
Shield: Vert, on amound issuant from base a representation of the mythological forge of Vulcan Argent fired Proper, in base a hammer and in sinister base an anvil of the second.
Crest: Ona wreath of the colors Argent and Vert a greande Sable enflammed Proper between two laurel sprigs each of three leaves all surmounted in base by a horizontal double open end wrench of the first, handle gules.
Distinctive Unit Insignia, Discription: A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Vert, on amound issuant from base a representation of the mythological forge of Vulcan Argent fired Proper, in base a hammer and in sinister base an anvil of the second. Attached below the shield a Green scroll inscribed "FORGING ONWARD" in Silver.
Origin/meaning
The shield is in the colours of the Armoured Force, indicating origin as 1st Armored Division Maintenance Battalion. The Forge of Vulcan/Hephaestus, The Greek and Roman God of Fire who was the smith of the Gods. This symbolise the former Maintenance function. This is further symbolised by the wrench and greande in the Crest. The six laurel leves symbolises the unit's campaigns in World War II. The Red Colour denote the Meritorious Unit Commendation award.
The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 1st Armored Division Maintenance Battalion on 14 October 1942. Thety was redesignated for the 123rd Ordnance Maintenance Battalion on 28 May 1945. And on 29 July 1952 redesignated for the 123rd Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalionand for the 123rd Ordnance Battalion on 13 September 1957. They was redesignated for the 123rd Maintenance Battalion on 31 January 1962. The arms were amended to add a Crest on 19 October 1972. The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was redesignated for the 123rd Support Battalion on 31 July 1987.
