The Sword is symbolic of Command it is shown point down indicating Lieutenant Commander Elliot's Death in Combat. The Sail in the Crest symbolises the Elliot Family's long association with Shipbuilding and Sailing Trades. The Pine Tree symbolises their Home State of Maine.
