Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Description: A shield-shaped device with an arced scroll attached above the shield, the overall dimensions 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width consisting of a scarlet shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, on which is a blue triskelion, fimbriated white surmounted by the white head of a bulldog, detailed gray. On a blue scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the inscription “GARFIELD” in white letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.
Shoulder Loop Insignia: Description: A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves blue over red, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced blue scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters.
Origin/meaning
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved 11 March 1975. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a motto scroll.
