Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a black disc bearing a gold cross embattled surmounted by a maroon cross voided white; centered overall a lion rampant crowned gold, all surmounted by a triparted maroon motto scroll bearing the words "STEADFAST AND DEDICATED" in gold letters.

Origin/meaning

Maroon and white are the colors associated with the U.S. Army Dental Corps. The maroon and white crosses symbolize the traditional service provided by the Army Dental Activity. The embattled cross alludes to the Heidelberg castle, a prominent landmark in the unit's home area. The black background and crowned rampant lion are taken from the coat of arms of the city of Heidelberg.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 18 December 1980.
