History: Formed 1 November 1942 as VP-205, VPB-205: 1 October 1944–15 May 1946, VP-205(2nd): 15 May 1946–15 November 1946, VP-MS-5: 15 November 1946-1 September 1948 and since 1 September 1948 VP-45. This was the the third use of the VP-45 designation.

Homeport: NAS Jacksonville, Florida
