Origin/meaning

The green background, symbolizes his dream of helping to make the Ordos desert green again through agricultural development. The wavy golden bar symbolizes the Huangluo or Yellow River which constituted the border of his diocese and cuts through several of the CICM missions in Northern China.

The silver star refers to his patron saint, Gaspar, one of the three Magi of the Orient whom the star guided to Christ, first manifestation of the Savior to the gentiles.

The temple symbolises a Chinese style church symbolizing his endeavor to establish the Catholic Church in China through acculturation.
