GERALD AUGUSTINE JOHN RYAN

Born: August 23, 1923
Deceased: June 4, 1985

Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Centre, 1977-1985; Titular Bishop of Munatiana

Arms (crest) of Gerald Augustine John Ryan
Official blazon
English Gules, three griffin's heads erased or, in fess point a heart and in middle chief point a fleur-de-lis argent.

Origin/meaning

The colours and griffin heads are based on the arms of some Ryan family and used here sto symbolise the last name of the bishop.

The heart in the center of the shield commemorates years of service which the bishop gave to the Catholic charity.

The fleur-de-lys symbolises both St. Joseph and St. Mary.
