Origin/meaning

The lands of the Reshem rural settlement have an ancient history. Here, since the end of the 14th century, the Makariev-Reshemsky Monastery has been located, with former and present temples: In the name of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity, Nativity of Christ, Resurrection, Nikolsky - all of them are represented on the coat of arms by a general symbol - a belfry, similar to the belfry located on the territory of the monastery. The boats are a symbol of the fact that in former times Reshma was a large trading settlement, where merchants from both the lower reaches of the Volga and its upper reaches came to trade. For a long time, as soon as the Volga was freed from under the ice, merchants rushed along it with their goods. From the lower reaches, where the river cleared faster, we left earlier. But they had to move longer and slower, overcoming the resistance of a powerful and deep current. The first ships from the upper and lower reaches usually met at the end of July just in the Reshma area. This place was very suitable for holding a fair. The fair was called Makaryevskaya - after the monastery located near a large trading village. The fact that the boats are of two colors and with the same oars and bows is an allegory of the meeting of two directions of trading people, from the south and from the north.
