The Design is base on the Plate born on the Marine Corps Helmet. The Motto Qua Patet Orbis = As Wide of the World, was the family motto of Johan Maurits Count of Nassau-Siegen (1604-1679). He distinguised himself in the Battle of Seneffe 11 August 1674, in which the Marine Corps also was involved. The motto approved by Royal Decree on 20 November 1946, also alludes to the worldwide activities of the Marine Corps. The whole Badge was approved by Royal Decree on 29 July 1955. | |||
