The Maltese Cross symbolise that the Squadron was based at Malta when granted the Badge. It was also stationed with No 7 Squadron and had to fly over its lines away from the Airfield. The Mathematic symbol for 22 over 7 is pi ππ, hence it inclusion in the Badge. Which was granted in May 1936. The Motto translates as Valiant and brave.
