A shield bordered black divided into two portions, the top portion containing a representation of a rising sun in gold on a white background, in the lower portion on a black background a representation of an open bible in white the words IN LUMINE TUO VIDEBIMUS LUMEN.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 3, 1938 to the then South African Native College, transferred to the University College of Fort Hare and later the University of Fort Hare.
