Municipality : Viana do Castelo
District : Viana do Castelo
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 21, 1999.
The chief shows a mural decoration, for which the local craftsmen were famous since the 18th century. The round fortress symbolises the many castles and fortresses in the region.
The wavy base symbolises the Afife river and the Atlantic Ocean, which have been of great importance for fishing in the past and tourism at present.
