BÂGÉ-LA-VILLE
Département : Ain
Incorporated into : 2018 Bâgé-Dommartin
Official blazon
Parti: au 1er de gueules au lion contourné d'hermine, au 2e coupé au I d'argent à trois fasces de sable et à la croix de Malte de sinople brochante, au II d'azur au besant d'or.
Origin/meaning
The lion is the historical arms of the region. The black bars are taken from the arms of the locally important Loëze family. The Maltese cross refers by its shape to the Order of St. John of Malta and their priories at Épaisse and La Vavrette, which owned part of the municipality. The green colour refers to the Knights of St. Lazaire, which also had possessions in the area.
The golden ball is taken from the arms of the Ayron de Montépin family, lords of the village in the 15th century.
