Origin/meaningThe olive tree is the traditional and identifying sign shown on the arms of the town (the municipality is covered mainly by these trees). El Vendrell grew around the church of Sant Salvador, whose bell tower is crowned by an angel as a weather-vane (this is the angel that surmounts the arms in the version used now by the local council). These arms are not official, but widely used. The Catalan heraldic commission has proposed the arms below, which have not (yet) been adopted by the local council.
