The arms were officially granted on January 31, 1978.
The checquered field is taken from the Cistercian Abbey of Stams, which used a checquered bend in its arms. For many centuries the abbey owned most of the property in the municipality. The division line refers to the steep mountains surrounding the village of Fendels.
