Red and Yellow are the Colours used by Artillery Units. The Radiant Star is from the Flag of Arizona and denotes the Home of the Regiment. The Arrows are from the badge of the former 158th Field Artillery Regiment, denoting herritage from that Regiment.
The Coat of Arms and distinctive Unit Insignia was both approved for the 480th Field Artillery Battalion on 2 December 1954. They was redesignated for the 180th Artillery Regiment on 7 June 1960. On 19 July 1972 they was redesignated for the 180th Field Artillery Regiment.
