Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided diagonally from upper left to lower right, yellow (left), purple (right), bearing a blue disc with nine gold rays radiating to chief and surmounted by a gold phoenix issuant from gold flames. Attached below the shield, a purple color scroll inscribed “RESURGENS” in gold letters.
Origin/meaning
The shield is divided into the colors associated with the school. The phoenix is symbolic of the city of Atlanta. The shoulder loop insignia was approved on 18 April 1991.
