Origin/meaning
These are the great arms of the city and agglomeration of Praha.
Each of the different districts/boroughs within the city has its own arms. See here for an overview of all districts.
The actual historical city of Praha is divided in the old city and the new city, the arms of the agglomeration are also mainly based on these (see below).

During the Czechoslovak Republic (1918-1940) the arms also showed the Slovak arms in the crest, as Prague was the capital city of the whole country.
